New Paintball Field In Peoria

I recently just played at a new indoor paintball field in Peoria, IL its on Knoxville and McClure its in the basement of the kick boxing studio. Its 5 bucks to play its open every day till 10 pm. Downside is they dont fill tanks yet but it is Bring Your Own Paint.  And must have your own equipment. The owner said after he gets some more money he is going to open another field. Its called Tranomal Fight Club.

I think I am going to check it out tomorrow, it sounds fun, I have been hearing about it a lot.

Is it like inflateable speedball bunkers or is it more of like indoor combat with rooms and hallways?
dark_angel_lcd

They call it "tactical paintball", it is rooms, hallways ect.
Iron Mike

Sweet, can I get the address so I can pull it up in google maps? Are they going to be open this Sunday?

I dont know if this is true, but a guy I know talked to the owner and he said that they were going to put in turf and airbunkers...

I talked to him about doing that to a place he is planning opening in 6 months, he isn't sure this is going to happen yet, but if it does, it will be one of the biggest indoor fields in the region.

I stopped in there yesterday afternoon to take a look.  I have some questions/concerns.

There was a game in progress in the playing area, so we didn't get to see what it was like except for what we could observe through the window.

When we entered the "ready room" there was an individual smoking in there.  I know the statewide smoking ban is a new thing and I don't necessarily agree with it on principle, but if that law is not being enforced what other things might not be enforced?

There was another young person in the ready room with an aired-up, hopper-attached marker with no barrel blocker and no one in the room was wearing a mask.  There were several paint splats on the wall, some one lost control of something in there.

The walls of the ready room did not reach all the way to the ceiling.  A ball could have easily come over the wall.  The wall is high enough that a ball over it would probably not hit anyone, but I don't like mixing "probably" with safety.

I saw no speed limit signs or chrony anywhere, but they may have been in the playing area.

The one obstacle we could see though the window appeared to be hastily constructed and had nails sticking out of it.

We asked the "smoker" about safety items, barrel blockers specifically, and he indicated that he had no use for one.  He just degassed his marker and removed the barrel.

There was no referee or company employee in the area to ensure compliance with even the most basic safety rules.

We went back upstairs and struck up a conversation with the gentleman behind the counter -- who I assume to be the proprietor -- and raised these same concerns.  His immediate response was "If you sign the waiver, you can't sue me."  I was in the ready room with unsafe acts occurring around me and was never even shown a waiver.  And while fear of being sued is some motivation for enforcing safety rules, it should not be the only one.  He did say the field obstacles were going to be reconstructed this week.  When asked about refs, he stated that the facility was too small and that refs would be getting shot all the time (or something along those lines).  He did say that if the newer bigger place happens there will be refs present.

Bottom line.  I'm not impressed.  I would not recommend this facility to a mom with a youngster interested in trying paintball for the first time.  For those with some experience it is a place to play indoors if you are willing to overlook some serious safety concerns.  The thought did cross my mind about renting the whole facility and using it for team practice (I can and do enforce safety with our team) but on second thought, I don't want to award my dollars to an establishment that doesn't, in my opinion, take safety seriously.  If these concerns are not addressed, odds are someone will get seriously injured and it will result in bad press for paintballers everywhere.

For those of you who play there, keep us posted as improvements are made.  I don't want to be a complete downer, there is some potential for a good field, it just needs to be a little more safety conscious in my opinion.

TO SUPER DAD

This is for all paintballers that have been here at Geronimo Fight Club I want everyone to know that I have tolded everyone to not smoke and and that just that day super dad has openned a can of make over for the place soon as he brought everything to my attetion I went do stairs and found a lot of things going on and will now like to ask that super dad come back after it is done which will be this saturday to check the place out. We will have all signs up and rules agian and from now on have a ref. down there at all times. We do have this all times but remember this place was really made for just a team to practic and now it is blowing out of control. I saw what was going on and closed it down asap as I saw it. So please superdad come back over to the place and you and your team can come play for free and see that it is ready and very safe. All the tinker toy bunkers have been taken care of that is were people have just made during play. The refs will hole everyone to the rules or you will be asked to leave untill next time.

Thank You and hope to see you there superdad

No problem Geronimo.  I'm currently out of state (my mom's in the hospital) but I'm willing to come see the improvements when we get back.

Everyone stay tuned, I'll file another report.

As promised -- Updated Review.

Mechanical Advantage and I stopped by Geronimo's place yesterday afternoon.  He was glad to see us.

Please note,  I am very impressed with Mr. Geronimo as a person.  He has taken the criticism I posted the other day and used it to improve his operation.  At no time has he tried to offer excuses or even take the easy way out and call me a liar.  I have found him to be a man of good character and also a man of his word.

There was still one person in the ready room without a barrel blocker on.  Geronimo has stated that there will be refs soon, they will help with this.  The gap above the wall was filled.  The poorly constructed obstacles have been removed and replaced with studier ones (no protruding nails that we saw). Geronimo states that he has ordered a chronograph.  One of the players brought one in for everyone to use yesterday.  There is carpet or padding on most of the floor to keep it from getting slippery.

Geronimo -- Hats off to ya!  You've made some major safety improvements in a short time, and have a plan to keep it safe!  Looking forward to the new place!

Not to steal his thunder but Geronimo was telling us about another 3 story building in the downtown area of Peoria that he plans to make into another paintball field.  He's got some great ideas.  Can't wait to see it.  Hope we can help.
Fabulouswedgie

Yeah, just let us know if you need any help with the new field...I know alot of people that would be willing to help out with a new field.
